Just as television reshaped political campaigning strategy with the Kennedy-Nixon debate in 1960, computers are playing a bigger and more decisive role in political campaigns in the 21st century. The future of political races will become increasingly driven by computers.

Computers – through the media – can deliver information anywhere almost instantaneously. When a candidate speaks, voters can know what was said almost as fast as it was spoken. That is the power of computers.

With computers, direct mailings to voters can be done on line quicker and at a fraction of the cost using a database of voter email addresses – a neccesity for fundraising. Campaign data can be organized in ways that improve the efficiency and responsiveness of a campaign. Sophisticated statistical programs can analyze voter trends and determine demographic areas of a candidate’s strength and weakness.

Politics and the computer is a concept that works both ways. While politicians and campaign managers use computers to get their message out to voters, voters an use the same medium to get their views to politicians. Voters now have the ability to contact their local, state and national representatives using email – that is potential power. Social media like Facebook and Twitter gives politicians and individual citizens a means of expressing their political views to a wide audience. No longer is the public limited to websites like http://www.direct.tv and the like, as social media is now more interactive. That is part of what politics is all about.

Computers have the potential to revolutionize politics. Much of Barack Obama’s successful 2008 campaign was driven by access to computers and the Internet. It is not unreasonable to think that elections could someday be conducted using the Internet. That would be a new format for democracy in action.

When you have a computer you will constantly run the risk of developing some sort of malicious code-related problem. Whether it be having your computer slow down because of a virus, having it be spied upon and having your information stolen or just having irritating ads popping up that won’t go away, you need to protect yourself.

There is a lot you can do when it comes to protecting yourself from malicious code. Firstly you can do your best to only associate with reputable sites. The worst types of sites are the ones that will force your computer to download all kinds of spam or other types of malicious code. This type of code may look harmless or even go unnoticed, but it will often affect your computer in all kinds of ways. You need to go beyond the paid programs when you want to really protect yourself from malicious code.

The best things you can do are generally free. When you use free software you can also get free updates for it without the constant advertising that orders you to buy more and more. While every company wants you to at least donate, the free software is typically far less obnoxious than the kind you have to pay in order to use. So when you think of being protected, at least consider downloading some free software and making your compute safer that way. While there won’t be any ads encouraging you to do this, you will still be just as protected.

If you or someone in your household does online gaming, you may be concerned about safety. You want your computer to be safe from viruses, but you also want to protect yourself. There are plenty of good programs out there to protect your computer, but perhaps you haven’t really thought about potential dangers to yourself.

Image via Wikipedia

Unfortunately there are scam artists that target gamers to get their personal information. Also beware of “free” games designed to lure you in and get you paying for extras in such small increments that you don’t realize that before long you’ve spent hundreds of dollars. One way to protect yourself from these types of dangers is to stay diligent. Keep a complete record of what you are paying for by keeping a log book. Keep a low credit limit credit card for all online purchases. Never use a debit card linked to an account with a large balance.

Another danger of online gaming is not saving money when possible or getting involved in something new that you aren’t educated about. Some online activities such as online gambling can be a lot of fun if done correctly yet disastrous if not. First and foremost, learn all the rules and strategies about what you will be playing. Then, before you sign up with a casino, find out about their online casino bonuses. Starting up with a new player bonus can save you a ton!

Following the old adage that if it looks too good to be true it probably is not true can keep you from making a costly mistake when gaming. Always practice safe gaming!

The internet has changed the mode of communication. Practically everything from paying bills to communicating with loved ones is done on the web today. So it is no surprise that with the growth and popularity of the web comes a growth of invaders. There have been decades of issues that involve virus dating back before the Love Bug which was a virus that swarmed around the internet and crashed many computers. So how do prevent security breaches and viruses? First you must know what to look for. Here are a few tips to help against spam.

Be aware of the email monster: The best place to find spam is in your email inbox if you don’t have your spam filter on. chain emails can cary viruses, other email messages can lead to fraud. Some people pretend to be the government, or charities asking for donations and either way you will be ripped off.

Downloads can lead to disaster: Downloaded content, be it music or data files, can hold any type of virus that can change settings or completely destroy your computer.

Web pages: Some web pages can hold instantly downloading viruses as soon as you open them, so its a good idea to be cautious about what sites you are searching for.

Social Media Sites: There are even viruses inside social media sites, sometimes these won’t actually damage your computer but they can damage your reputation by sending out false emails that are offensive or racist to your entire contact list.

SEO software has become affordable and practical marketing solution for a lot of small to medium-size businesses. This is because it provides a cheaper alternative to hiring the services of SEO firms. But with the tons of available software in the internet, they might find it hard to choose which one will fit their needs.

The first thing to do before purchasing any SEO software is to deal with whether you will be the only one using it or you have several employees to use it. This is due to the fact that different software programs have different licensing options, so check out first the one which will address your needs. Also, you must find out if you can optimize several websites under one account or if you have to purchase separate accounts for each website. For those who are looking for a flexible solution that can be accessed anywhere, you must look for a web-based solution. You must also look for software that provides comprehensive reporting especially if you are intending to provide SEO services to others. You must determine your goals whether you are looking for top rankings to really grow your business. The best way to gauge whether the software can provide you with your needs is by knowing your success metrics. Ranking, traffic, ROI and conversions are all measures of success and different SEO programs can help you achieve success in each of these categories.

Antivirus protection is one of the most important things to have for your computer system. It provides key protection for your computer, to ensure it is not vulnerable to third party viruses, spyware and other malicious threats.

Image via Wikipedia

Paying for It

There are free antivirus programs available. Others cost a significant amount of money. How can you tell if you should pay for a program or not? Here are some tips to help you to make that decision.

Free programs often have fewer features than paid programs. Consider the benefits of using a program to aid with email protection from spam, for example, which may be a protection only available through a paid antivirus program.

In some cases, a free program can be okay, especially if the Internet connection is not constant or you are not using it often. If there is a constant connection, the benefit of having a program is clear. Without it, anyone can enter the system through a vulnerable point and take advantage of the user.

For a business, especially businesses using cloud computing methods or storing customer data, having an in-house, paid antivirus program is essential. The level of help is ideal in this higher-end product.

If you are considering the benefits of a free antivirus program or a paid one, remember to compare the specific features of each product before making a decision about which one is right for your specific needs. Most of the time, you can get a free trial of a program to help you to make the decision about whether or not the more expensive version fits your needs better, or offers improved benefits to you.

There is a lot of thought given to the future of computers on society. Some predictions are encouraging and exciting; other predictions are dark and foreboding. For starters, it is important to see how far computers have come.

The very first basic computing tool was the abacus, circa 500 B.C. The first genuine computer was not invented until 1936. From that point on, computer technology moved forward, gaining momentum with each year. Today, computers have advanced in use and sophistication to the point that they involved in the fabric of everyday life. Therin lies the primary concern of many futurists.

One of the cornerstones on the future of computers is Moore’s Law. Simply stated, More believed that as computers evolve and become smaller they will also become more powerful and capable of performing more functions. Over the past 40 years computers have reduced in size and at the same time, become more powerful and adaptable to a variety of tasks, Moore’s Law appears to have validity.

Computers are now used in almost every aspect of American – and world – society. One of the downsides to the growth of computer use is the reduction of people’s interaction with each other in business and socially. Computers are already replacing bank tellers and grocery clerks. Email and texting have replaced face-to-face interaction. Shopping can be done on the computer without ever talking to a sales clerk. While computer technology has spawned a career field that is in high demand, it has also led to the elimination of manufacturing jobs one done my humans in favor of automating and computerizing the work.

Spam – the very mention of the word to computer users usually gets an unpleasant reaction. Spam is typically unsolicited advertisement email that is sent to large numbers of computer users. In addition to being an unwanted nuisance spam takes up large chunks of bandwidth which slows Internet traffic down.

Spam originally appeared on a small scale in 1978 with 600 messages. By 2010 there were an estimated 200 billion spam emails sent every day. According to the Message Anti-Abuse Working Group, 88-92 percent of the emails sent in the first half of 2010 were spam.

Unfortunately, not all spam is benign. Some spam contains viruses or software designed to capture the user’s computer as a “zombie” and then link it to a bot net. Bot nets are an extension of a spammer’s network of zombie computers that send spam to attack other computers.

Spam traffic has grown because spammers are difficult to locate. Most countries have or are developing law to make spam illegal. In 2003 the U.S. government enacted the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 to combat spam and make it illegal. While the United States accounts for the most spammers, many of these operations have been moved out of the U.S. to avoid prosecution.

The solution to stopping spam is to shut it down at its source. This is difficult to do because the spamming groups are elusive. Most Internet service providers have integrated filters into their networks to detect and eliminate spam. Home computer owners can purchase a strong anti-virus software program that has an anti-spam component. Users can also pay attention to the email that is received. These two steps taken in the home can make a huge difference.

The home personal computer is taken for granted in 2011. It is amazing to realize that the PC’s growth in popularity and use has taken place during the latter part of the 20th century.

The first personal computer (PC) traces its origin to 1975 as a kit for the MITS Altair 8800. Two years later Radio Shack introduced the Commodore TRS-80 and it quickly became popular with earlyPC users. Commodore improved on the success of the TRS-80 with the release of the VIC-20 which marked the real beginning of the home computing in American society. In 1979 there were one million personal computers in American homes.

In 1981 IBM released its PC and it did not take long for this computer to dominate the PC market. The design of this computer set a new standard for home computers. By 1982 home computers where a significant enough part of American life that Time magazine declared 1982 “the year of the computer” with 10 million personal computers in U.S. homes.

The first version of Microsoft Windows was released in 1985 and marked the start of the decline of MS-DOS as the dominate operating system for PCs. Windows 2.03 was released in 1988. during the same year the first computer worm was discovered and 3.5″ floppy disk replaced the 5.25″ disk as the format of choice.

By 1989 the use of home computers had grown to 54 million people.

1990 saw the release of Windows 3.0 and the 486 base processor. Windows 3.1 was released in 1991, followed by Windows 3.2 in 1992.

The Internet caught home computer users’ attention in 1995 as more Internet service providers (ISP) gave homes access to the World Wide Web.

A home computer, fresh out of the box, with software pre-loaded is safe and secure. Once it is plugged in, running and connected to the Internet, all bets are off for security. There are a lot of nasty viruses and malware on the Internet. The good news is that there are several steps that can be taken to protect a computer from intruders.

The first task in protecting a computer is to install a strong anti-virus program that will recognize and stop any virus from getting in. When selecting an anti-virus program, compare the features on several programs and talk to others who have anti-virus software installed. The point is to find a program that is well known, respected and can do the job.

The next step is to install a firewall – preferably a two-sided firewall. A firewall prevents any unwanted Internet traffic from gaining access to a computer. A two-sided firewall also looks at traffic going from the computer to the Internet. The better anti-virus software programs usually include a two-sided firewall.

It is also important to back up all important information and documents. If there are constant changes or additions to what is stored on the computer, it is wise to back important files up at least once a month - or even once a week. In the event that data on the computer is destroyed for any reason, the backed up data can be downloaded. Back ups can be copied to a blank CD or with some anti-virus programs, be backed up to remote server.

Most computer users fail to understand that whatever they send out onto the Internet can be seen by anyone curious enough to look. For this reason, encryption software is important because it makes it difficult to see correspondence of any kind.

Finally, be cautious about unfamiliar email - if the party is unknown, delete the message.

When the Internet first started as ARPAnet in the mid 1960s, computers were big, slow and confined to use by the government and academia. Computer use was based on trust – trust that users would always act ethically and follow the rules. The growth of the Internet and its availability to millions of users coupled with the advent of e-commerce changed the cyber environment and simple trust no longer protected computers from cyber-crime.

The emergence and growth of cyber crime has brought about the creation of a new branch of computer technology in the corporate world and government – Information Security. The goal of Information Security is to implement a secure computer operating system that protects data from being stolen, corrupted or destroyed. At the same time, the system must remain accessible to authorized users. It is a tall order.

Individual computers are most vunerable to attack by hackers and cyber crooks when connected to other computers – like a network. Information security is best achieved through collective processes and techniques that protect sensitive information from being published or tampered with by unauthorized individuals at the server. This goal is accomplished by making corporate servers and networks elusive to cyber criminals intent onbreaking into a system.

The keys to ensuring a secure computer network liein three words: confidentiality, integrity and authentication – CIA for short. Confidentiality means a system cannot be acessed by unauthorized users and that secrecy and privacy will not be compromised. Integrity means that information is unauthorized changes canot be made to data without authorized users detecting the intrusion. Authentication means that authorized users are authenticated for access to information. A fourth key, availability, means that resources are available to authorized users on demand and protected against denial of service attacks.

The most important mission for Information Security remains - to ensure and maintain privacy for a computer system’s users.

Email has quickly become one of the most dominant ways in which to communicate with people. Whether you utilize it at your place of employment, or for personal uses, email has drastically increased in popularity and in terms of the number of people who utilize it on a regular basis. As this fact becomes more prevalent, people are going to find ways in which to take advantage of the large number of people using emails for various scams and virus implementation. This practice is already going on, and has gotten worse over the years as emailing has grown.

One of the most prone ways in which an email address becomes compromised is during a sign up process at a specific site regarding a product or service the consumer might be interested in. Primarily every online business requires potential customers to sign up and enter an email address as a result of this sign up process. This in itself is not an issue. However, what the company does with the information is where the problem lies. Many companies are legitimate and use the email addresses for simple updates regarding the various products and services that pertain to the company and the customers interests.

However, the less legitimate companies utilize the email addresses in one of two popular ways: The first consists of simply selling the information to marketing companies that are bent on spamming your inbox with irrelevant products and services that have no bearing on your own interests whatsoever. Secondly, and more rarely, the company is not a company at all, but a hacker or virus developer using the business as a front to obtain email addresses. Once they have access to your email address, they send a slew of spam, scammy messages, and emails containing file attachments that are generally viruses.

With the popularity of the Internet soaring to new heights, more people are utilizing it for a number of different things that are different from the primary entertainment factor that it was utilized for a decade ago. Among one of the areas of the Internet that has grown most over the past decade are the various retail outlets in which people can browse inventory online and purchase items. Through the variety of popular brick and mortar retailers that offer online stores to their customers, to primarily online vendors that operate solely through a web site; there are droves of options for consumers to choose from.

While in fact the diverse amount of choices that are available for consumers is not a bad thing, it can pose potential dangers if people are not careful. The problem lies in the fact that when you are making a purchase at the various online retailers, you are required to enter specific personal information in order to carry through with the purchase. Among one of the more important pieces of information is the credit card or debit card number that you might be using in order to make the purchase. This is by no means a problem in itself. but as people get used to the concept of having to enter their credit card information, they may get a little too relaxed on sites and in situations that they should be weary of. As a result of this, droves of people enter their information on sites that are phishing sites and obtain information fraudulently. This can result in excessive billing to the account in question and pose immense problems to the card carrier. Additionally, some sites have a great deal of small print in which people do not typically pay attention to that states their card will be billed for products or services that they are not interested in; running large tabs without the card owner knowing.

Unfortunately, as the Internet continues to thrive as a viable source of information and entertainment for the millions of people who log on daily, there poses opportunity for people who are looking to make a quick buck, illegally and unethically through various tactics. Nothing is more prevalent regarding this fact than the email spam epidemic. No matter what, or how careful you are when you sign up for specific products or services; somehow, spam always finds its way to your inbox. An ongoing practice to help neutralize this problem has been growing in popularity over the years. This practice includes employing the services of an email address meant specifically for catching the spam that results from signing up for various products and services.

Delving into the world of email spam; there are droves of different kinds that range from seemingly harmless email spam simply advertising a product or service of no interest to the owner of the account, to more dangerous prospects, such as scams that attempt to collect personal information by posing as a viable and trustworthy entity. All of these types of email spam are extremely annoying for people who have to deal with them on a consistent basis, additionally, they can quickly spiral out of control and end up taking over your inbox, shadowing the legitimate email.

The best way to neutralize these issues is by creating a secondary email address solely for signing up for specific products and services. This email address will be the account that all of the spammy email and potential threats filter to, while your main email address will continue to only hold the legitimate emails of those whom you want to have the address. This is the easiest way to protect yourself, your main email address, and ensure that your inbox stays clean. Fortunately, laws have been passed that force companies that collect email lists for automated messages to provide an unsubscribe option at the bottom of the email message. This allows people to at least clean the spam that plagues their main inbox that was unleashed prior to creating a spam email account.

As our society becomes more fast paced, we are going to become equally dependent on the technology that makes living life more simple and efficient. Computers are a rather large part of this techno-revolution, and more people are becoming owners of PCs, laptops, and tablet computers. As more people jump into the online world, the amount of people who are ignorant to the potential dangers lurking around this vast world continues to grow. As a result of this fact, there are droves of illegal acts of fraud and spam that are committed on a daily basis throughout the Internet that unsuspecting people become victims of. The most dire of these problems being the prospect of identity theft, while the less detrimental, but just as irritating being spam. Among one of the most targeted areas for spam and scams is through email.

Many people have emails accounts that they use on a daily basis. Some people even have multiple email accounts that they use for various purposes; a favorite being utilizing one entire email address solely to catch spam. However, there are many avid emailers who have but one main email address that they use for virtually everything. Many places offering goods and services online require a potential customer to enter their email address in order to become a member of that specific site; this is where the problems begin.

While in fact there are plenty of legitimate sites and retailers, there are those sites that promise a specific good or service simply to obtain the email address of someone. Upon gaining access to the email, they do nothing but send automated messages that offer goods and services more likely than not, completely irrelevant to what that specific person is looking for. These types of message barrages are commonly referred to as email spam, and they are a true epidemic online. While many people are keen to the potential threats and create emails simply for signing up for web sites they are unsure about, groups are still ignorant to email spam and end up having to dump an email address as a result.

Despite the vast popularity of computers and their increasing necessity as a standard part of the modern home, there are still more people who do not own computers and have access to the internet than there are people that do in The United States. As a result of this, while in fact the demand for computers are growing, there are droves of people who are unfamiliar with their operation, let alone general maintenance and security. Unfortunately, malicious entities are aware of this fact and write programs to issue attacks onto unsuspecting computer operators. These attacks come in a wide range of forms, typically taking on the illusion of a trusted piece of software, or sneaking in via a pop-up or even through cookies. Many people who have these seemingly minute viruses are unknowingly having their search history recorded and private information stolen.

There are a few ways to go about ensuring your computer remains safe. These remedies are simple and should be followed on a consistent basis. By performing these acts, 99% of potential dangers will be sent packing. The most important of these methods, and arguably the most simple, is that users ensure their operating system is updated. Generally, the operating system lets the user know whenever there is an update available, and even offers the option for automatic installations when they are released. Typically, these updates are aesthetic as well as remedies to ongoing bugs that occur in the software. Additionally, and most importantly, they are updates to the security of the operating system; as new viruses and loopholes are discovered constantly, so it is vital for developers to consistently update the security of their software to neutralize these new threats. If you do not update your operating system, as simple as it is, you are putting your computer at major risk by leaving all of the potential loopholes unpatched.

In all, there are numerous ways to safeguard your computer against potential threats. The basis of any secure computer is updated software, particularly an updated and freshly patched operating system.

The internet is a wonderful place, full of vast amounts of easily accessible information and droves on entertainment. People are using search engines such as Google to find the information they need more often than they are looking in traditional books at the library, this is an indication as to the power the internet holds on modern society. However, despite the popularity of computers and internet access, more people are not connected than people that are. As a result, there is still large amounts of space for the internet to grow in terms of people who utilize it. With this prospective growth also comes the increase in ignorance of these new people who are unaware of the dangers the internet can hold.

One of the most common issues that ties hand in hand with the internet are the viruses that are consistently transferring around from one place to another. These viruses come in many forms and thus, can be contracted in many different ways. People who are unfamiliar with computers and the internet are more prone to making the easy mistakes that result one of these viruses being transferred onto their computers.

Email is one of the most common ways to open a door for a computer virus. There are tens of thousands of ominous entities who obtain email addresses and mass-send emails on an auto-mated timer to their email lists. These types of emails are commonly referred to as spam, and tend to contain one or more downloadable files within them. These files can consist of anything from harmless text files that simply contain some irritating sales pitch, to malicious content that acts as a gateway for a virus onto your computer. As a rule of thumb, it is vital to never open any files within emails from sources you are unfamiliar with.

In all, the internet is a fantastic tool to utilize for finding information and seeking entertainment. However, as with anything that is extremely popular, there are always people that try to utilize measures to take advantage of the system and monetize off the honesty of others.

Data is your most valuable asset when it comes to the things you do. Much of the data we have is being stored in the easy to access digital form. Some of that data is more important than others but it all carries a personal connection. So, when a thief comes around, their number one goal is to steal that data. There are two ways the thief tries really hard to find the code words to access it. They either steal it through your computer or con you into giving it to them. To keep your data safe, you need to keep your silence and your computer secure.

Keeping your computer secure from data theft is a continual process. Computer data theft is accomplished by uploading a specific piece of code that reads your data and transmits it to another computer. The thief can do this via email, a website, or anything they can get you to download or click. A good anti-virus program scans your computer and stops many of the incoming viruses. But you need to be on top of the updates to keep your protection up. In addition, a good firewall stops many attacks.

Keeping your silence is infinitely harder. Sometimes, our emotions get in the way of logic and we give out our data without considering the consequences. By the time the mistake is realized, the best we can do is damage control. But our silence is an important part of protecting our data. Investigating individual requests for data is essential to protecting ourselves. We can’t just hand out our data to anyone who requests it even if does personally invoke our emotions.

Data protection is a very personal matter. What it boils down to is you. You are the primary defense for your data. You need to use every defensive aid to help you keep your data safe.

There are lots of anti-virus, and anti-spam programs. But there is such a thing as too much. For the anti-spam and anti-virus programs all you need is one. Two is one too many for your computer system to handle. There are a few reasons why you only need to stick to one. Once you have picked the anti-virus and anti-spam program you like, stop. Don’t download any more than one. The main reason why is that two different anti-virus programs don’t play very well together.

When you run a typical scan, one program will detect the other and treat it as a virus. This causes problems for you, the programs you have downloaded, and for your computer. In other words, it can turn into one giant headache. So, instead of detecting and getting rid of real viruses, you are stuck with a program alarm on a virus that does not exist. Fixing it usually involves uninstalling one of the programs. If you pay for more than one, you are throwing your money away.

Two anti-virus programs can also cause conflicting reports. One report will say one thing and the other might tell you something totally different. This is a side effect of having two anti-virus programs. The question then comes up. Which one is right? The answer is not as clear as it seems. The headache is in trying to figure out which one needs attention and which one can be ignored. It can lead to some basic confusion which would only be solved by uninstalling one and running the scans again.

Yes, there is such a thing has having too much protection. So, don’t forget to deactivate and uninstall your old anti-virus before installing a new one onto your computer system. Otherwise, you will wind up with an enormous headache dealing with both programs.

When you’re playing online video games, you can’t assume you’re safe. Even hackers can exist on the playgrounds. That’s particularly true when dealing with online casino games. There’s a lot more at stake with that as well given money is included in the equation. So be careful. Yes, you’re probably wondering how it’s possible hackers could attack and get into your personal info when you’re doing something as simple and insignificant as playing an online video game. Chances are you’re skeptical. You might even be laughing and will still willingly play your Facebook games without any thought to protect yourself and your computer. Think again. Be wary.

The fact is you need a personal profile; that’s exactly what a hacker uses to get into your personal information—something as simple as a profile. Your typical profile has your name, address, phone number, email address, and if you happen to be playing an online casino game, your bank account information, credit card information, or PayPal. There’s the rub. If a hacker gets a hold of any of that information, kiss your money good-bye.

Make sure your computer has one of the best antivirus software to date, such as Kaspersky or Avast, and have it run continually while you play your online games. It’ll keep any hidden malicious software in check as you’re laying down your royal flush or hitting the 21 on blackjack. Hackers won’t know what to do when their systems shut down from the “No!” front of an antivirus software scan. Also know that the site you’re playing on matters; make sure it’s reputable and not an easy, insecure breeding ground for hackers. Usually Facebook knows the ins and outs of online gaming, so you don’t have to worry much about that arena. But anywhere else? Be sure to do your research.

Be careful as you play on your online gaming playground. Hackers exist. And they’re looking for you.

There are many different pitches for fraud. Most of them you have probably had in your inbox at one time or another. Some have suffered greatly from failing for these deceptions. They all use a different ploy to draw you into their web of deceit. Some play off of your emotions, feeding you very sad lines or giving you a story to cry over. Others, play off of your fear of being hacked or contacted by officials. Still others, play on your greed and your desperation for money in the bank. But they all have one thing in common, they need to be deleted immediately.

The lottery email is usually a obvious forms of fraud. You have been entered into some foreign lottery and have won millions. All that you need to do to claim it is give them your information. After they have that, a small fee is requested for either lawyers or taxes. But if someone is desperate enough, the figures are very hard to ignore. However, you will never receive a dime.

The phishing emails emulate an agency, a business, a bank, Paypal, or another organization. The fraud is trying to establish itself behind a shield of legitimacy by using those big names. However, the phishing has nothing to do with the organization. In fact, it often redirects to a foreign address. If there is a sense of urgency attached to the email, you can directly check out the problem by directly typing in the address. Think twice when you get a “your account has been hacked” or “your account needs attention.”

The story emails are the ones that play the most with your emotions. But you can’t let your emotions override your common sense. The truth is the stories are false. The fraud is designed to get you to ship your money overseas.

Fraudulent emails slip through the spam filters all the time. Stay vigilant to keep from falling for these.

Web surfing is a serious business for many people. Whether you are surfing for information, business or pleasure, the opportunity to catch a virus exists. Oftentimes, it comes out of nowhere when you are on the hunt for a specific piece of information or click on certain websites. Most times, your anti-virus software will catch it before it does any real damage. However, there are times when even the best software can’t protect you from new creations. To keep yourself safe while surfing, you should follow a few rules that will give you the best shot for avoiding viruses.

Anti-virus updates are crucial. Viruses and worm are ever evolving projects that appear frequently. While it is impossible to catch and protect against them all, your anti-virus software is striving to keep up with the new releases. It is their job to protect your system. They can’t do their job correctly, if the anti-virus is working with old software. Old software can’t catch the new and upcoming viruses.

Don’t enter sites that are flagged. There are some sites that will generate a red flag. This is your anti-virus telling you not to proceed forward. It is a warning that you may suffer adverse effects if you enter it. It could also contain a virus that will disable your anti-virus software and completely dissolve your protection. Avoiding the website is your best bet. Also, run your anti-virus scan immediately afterward to make sure you haven’t caught anything in passing.

The anti-virus software is your best defense against catching a virus while surfing. You must keep it up to date and current. Be aware of when it expires so you are not caught without protection. Not every site can be trusted. If the red flag appears, don’t ignore them. They are imparting information that you could potentially suffer damage.

Viruses are a nasty production of those who are testing the limits of technology. These little code creations have the power to wreak major havoc on any computer system they have access to. One of the easiest ways a computer contracts such an infection is through email. The unsuspecting recipient of such emails open them up with disastrous consequences. Usually, the clean-up takes hours of time scanning and lots of frustration. In addition, the virus can just completely shut down your entire system with no hope of recovery.

The virus email is a very sneaky creature. It often disguises itself as a friend or family member. Sometimes, it hides behind humor, a sob story, a must have product, or an urgent message. It tries very hard with convincing words to get the recipient to do exactly what it wants them to do. Click on the link. Once you do, it commences its attack and there is no stopping it without a good anti-virus program.

But not all anti-virus programs can stop it. Sometimes, it targets the anti-virus and disables it with a single blow. Then it sneaks into the system to wreak havoc. The attack on the anti-virus system can go unnoticed until it is really needed and then the program fails. At that point all that can be done is a shutdown before things get worse and a reboot in safe mode to try and get rid of the coding before it steals any vital information or before it extensively damages the motherboard.

The most simplistic protection to avoid these types of viruses is actually at your fingertips. Don’t click on them. It is very easy to delete them with a simple click. The best protection is avoidance. So when you are faced with an unknown email sent from a friend, just don’t click on it.

The spam folder is the infamous by product of email. Ever since advertisers have learned that email is a way to talk to the customers, they have been finding ways to collect these valuable addresses. Once marketing got a hold of the idea to use email as a marketing tool, it went overboard. As result, spam was created. In order to combat, the growing epidemic and frustration by email users, the mail service providers created filters to stop a lot of the incoming spam.

These filters were obviously labeled as the spam folder. However, they are not a foolproof way to stop the spam. They are only partially successful at the task of filtering spam. Some of it still gets through but the situation is much better now. Coupled with many anti-spam laws, spam has been greatly reduced as a result.

However, the spam folder has its limitations. The spam folder is not always successful at filtering out spam. Some of it somehow always manages to sneak through. Most of the spam that filters through can be attributed to typing in an email address into a meaningless piece of advertisement. Once this happens, the advertisement will walk through the open door that was provided. The spam folder is not designed to stop direct mailing applications. In addition, the spam folder may mistaken important emails for spam.

The spam folder has become a permanent part of our email format. As long as people are trying to sell stuff, there will be spam. There has been some progress in bringing it under control with laws and filtering. Unfortunately, spam will probably be stuck with us for a long while. You can’t stop it but you can stop feeding into the system by only giving your email address out to those who really need it.

Email scams are unsolicited messages that claims the recipient has the chance to an excellent deal or that they can perform a simple task and be greatly rewarded. Some scam messages ask individuals for business and others invite them to a website that pitches a product or service.

Email Scams

Advance-fee Fraud: There are many different types of this scam, but the most common is the Nigerian scam, also called the Nigerian Letter, Nigerian bank scam, or 419 fraud. Sometimes the emblem of the Nigerian Senate is used in the message.

Word of Mouth: This scam states that an unidentified individual has posted a secret about the person and he or she must pay a fee to view the message.

El Gordo de La Primitiva Lottery International Promotion programs: These programs often tell recipients that their name or email address was randomly selected for a contest and to claim their supposed winnings he or she must provide bank account information or other personal data.

Investment Schemes: Messages that advertise investments that promise high return rates with minimal or no risk. A popular version claims to be seeking investors to help develop an offshore bank.

Secret Shopper: The recipient receives a message to work as a “Secret Shopper” typically after the individual’s resume has been posted at a public job search website. Once the recipient replies the so-called company sends a counterfeit check with documents to work as the shopper. The documents often tell the individual to make many small transactions at local businesses and record their experience on a false form that looks official. The individual is also instruction to create a significant wire transfer and cash the counterfeit check, which provides the “company” with personal information.

FBI Email: Message claims to be an official request from the FBI’s Anti-Terrorist and Monetary Crimes Division from a supposed Nigerian FBI unit that is requesting individuals to confirm an inheritance of millions of dollars.

Antivirus software is a form of protection for computers to be used to prevent, identify, and remove a variety of computer viruses including Trojan horses and worms. Some antivirus software also prevents and eliminates forms of malware such as spyware and adware.

Identification Techniques

There are a variety of ways an antivirus software can be utilized to recognize viruses and malware.

Signature-based detection: the most common technique an it identifies viruses and malware by compares the aspects of a file with a dictionary made up of signatures from harmful software. It searches an entire file in separate parts to detect viruses that have embedded themselves into current files.

File emulation: implements a program into a virtual environment and monitors the actions of the program. Based on the actions, this technique can identify if a program is harmful and then the technique can perform the necessary disinfection steps.

Heuristic-based detection: typically used to detect unknown viruses.

Topics of Concern

Effectiveness: Since technology is constantly advancing and reaching new limits, concerns over the effectiveness of antivirus software and its ability to keep up with the advancement of malicious programs is questioned. Many studies have show that the effectiveness of antivirus software decreases against unknown attacks. Also, new viruses are often written by professionals of criminal organizations, which makes them more complex and not as easily to detect.

False Positives: When antivirus software deems a normal file as malicious it can lead to serious issues. It can immediately remove or quarantine the identified files and result in certain areas of an operating system or applications unable to be used.

Unexpected Renewal Costs: Many license agreements of commercial antivirus software have a section that states a subscription will be automatically renewed at the cost of the purchaser. The users credit card will be automatically billed without authorization. Most antivirus software requires users to unsubscribe up to 90 days in advance of the expiration of the current subscription.

Secure operating systems are a key concept of computer security. Ordinary operating systems lack the characteristics that guarantee maximum security levels.

Development

The technology needed to employ these systems was based on scientific principles and developed in the 1980s. During this time many operating systems were produced that were very hard to penetrate. The original technology is still used, but limited because it is not extensively understood and it requires changes to system management.

Extremely strong secure operating systems are based on operating system kernel technology that can assure that specific security policies will be strictly implemented in an operating environment.

The Bell LaPadula model is an example of a computer security policy and it is based on a pairing of special microprocessor hardware components such as connecting a memory management unit to a particular properly employed operating system kernel.

Design

The design approaches to create secure operating systems is plausible, deterministic, and meticulous. Unlike most types of software, secure operating systems meet certain stipulations and include certifiable confidence that is compared to power, size and weight specifications.

These types of secure operating systems are typically used to protect highly sensitive information such as national security data, classified military information, and data from international financial entities. These types of systems are extremely powerful and very few are classified at the highest security level.

Assurance

The guaranteed effectiveness of secure operating systems depends on a variety of factors such as the reliability of the design method and assurance of accuracy during implementation.

Degrees of Security Strength

The strength of security is measured by the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, commonly called Common Criteria. This standard assesses system’s level of assurance and functionality of security. The results of the assessment are stored in a protection profile.

To ensure the limited used of the extremely high assurance secure operating systems, none of them have been fabricated or certified by the Common Criteria for many years.

Many employers are now utilizing email as way to hire applicants. The request for a resume sent via email is increasing dramatically. Instead of professionally printed paper and intensive formatting, the resume has been reduced to digital format. That can mean a number of things for applicants. But the underlying premise is that employers are using emailed resumes to judge if potential candidates are right for the job. So when an employer asks for your resume to be sent via email, there are a few things you should be aware of before sending it off.

The first is to read the directions. The employer will request one of two ways to send off the resume. The first way is as an attachment. The attachment is the easiest thing to screw up. The main problem is the way your resume is saved on your hard drive. The best way to save is in .doc format. Do not include any fancy coding or weird formats. Watch out for .docx format because that is impossible for the potential employer to open up. The employer may request a certain format and if that is the case, you should save it the format requested.

The second way an employer will request a resume is in the body of the email. If you don’t follow the directions here, your application will be discarded. Some employers will simply not open up attachments of any type even if it is only your resume. The copy and paste feature is very useful here. However, any special hidden coding will most certainly show up after the pasting. So, double check and read over your resume first. Keep it simple with the format. You are looking for easy to read vice professional appearance.

Following the directions for submitting your resume is crucially important. Employers want people who can follow directions even if they are given electronically.

Identity theft is a type of fraud that involves stealing an individual’s identity usually to gain access to financial resources such as credit cards and bank accounts and to obtain credit and other benefits under the false identity. It can cause detrimental effects to the victim and he or she may be responsible for the actions of the thief. The victims do not usually know how their sensitive information was obtained.

Types of Identity Theft

Financial identity theft involves using another person’s identity to attain money, credit, goods, and services.

Business or commercial identity theft is when someone uses another person’s name of business to gain credit.

Medical identity theft is using another individual’s identity to receive medical care or prescription medication.

Criminal identity theft is pretending to be another person when detained for a crime.

Identity cloning involves another person’s information to pose as him or her in everyday life.

Methods for acquiring and taking advantage of personal information

Identity theft criminals usually attain and exploit personal information about victims or many different credentials used for identification. Examples:

Stealing bank or credit cards, passports, identification cards by robbery or mail theft.

Quickly memorizing bank or credit card numbers using a hand-held device and later creating duplicate cards.

Searching through garbage for personal information.

Observing individuals typing information at public places such as credit card numbers, login credentials, etc.

Using malware on computers that track and store personal information.

Hacking into computer networks, databases, or systems to gain access to large amounts of personal information.

Using public records about individuals that are published in public-access areas such as electoral registers.

Obtain data from disposed IT equipment such as personal computers, mobile phones, USB memory devices and hard drives.

Advertising fake job offers to access applications and resumes that contain personal information.

Pretending to be a trusted individual or organization in phone calls, emails, text messages, etc to fool victims into giving out personal information.

Computer security is a type of computer technology that is concerned with protecting the information contained in computers and related networks. It involves the protection of information and related equipment from natural disasters, theft and fraud, but still enabling the information and equipment to be easily accessed and useful to its users.

Computer Security Methods

Computer security approaches are intended to protect the information of a program while not imposing restrictions on the uses of the program. Computer security may involve more than one method:

Believe all the software will adhere to a specific security policy and the software in analyzed to determine that it is trustworthy.

Believe all the software will abide to a specific security policy, but the software has been deemed untrustworthy, also called computer insecurity.

Do not trust any software, but implement a security policy that contained trustworthy hardware devices

Do not trust any software, but impose a security policy with devices that are untrustworthy, also called computer insecurity.

Many systems have involuntarily resulted in computer insecurity that have lead to breaches of security. Method number three is the most practical because it has a variety of degrees of freedom and avoids security breaches. A combination of method one and four is used frequently.

Security Systems Design

Many methods and strategies are used to design security systems and only a small number of effective approaches to improve security systems after they are designed.

One method uses the principle of least privilege method, which results in the system only having the privileges required for function. This protects the system even if an intruder is able to access one component of the system, it is very difficult to access other areas.

Some security systems separate the system into smaller parts to open the possibility of using various methods including automated theorem proving.

Computer system security is necessary to protect valuable and sensitive information from corruption, disintegration, and publication from unauthorized individuals.

Email fraud is an illegal act that involves obtaining personal information from email users under false pretenses. Email fraud pries on naïve users and many have lost large amounts of money to criminals sending fraudulent messages.

Types of Email Fraud

Spoofing

Spoofing involves receiving an email from and individual who is saying to be someone else. It can occur in a variety of ways, but the most common way is masking the actual sender’s name and the message origin. Majority of email fraud acts use at least some spoofing because nearly all frauds are criminal acts and these criminally usually attempt to avoid acts that would be traced easily.

False Offers

Many instances of attempted email fraud involve solicitation messages to persuade users to purchase goods or services. The fake offer usually features a popular product or service at a significantly lower price.

Items may be presented before they are “actually” available because many individuals want something that no one else has yet. The person pays in advance for the product and then never receives the item.

False offers are often intended to obtain a user’s credit card or bank account information.

Phishing

Many email fraud messages claim to be from an actual company, specifically one that a prospective victim already has a current professional relationship. The method to lure customers is often a fake message from the fraud department or related area asking users to verify personal information, create a new password, or related requests. If the victim complies, the con artist has the information to the account and can do with as they please. An example of phishing is a fraudulent message from a customer’s bank.

Help Requests

Help request email fraud involves messages being sent asking for help in a certain way in exchange for a reward, often a large sum of money.

A widespread form of this type of email fraud is known as the “Nigerian scam.”

In today’s competitive marketplace, email is an essential aspect of daily business operations and helps a variety of organizations remain competitive. As the use of email continues to increase in the business world, the significance of email security becomes vital. The most essential security measures are those related to email storage management, mail flow, and recovery of data.

Email Storage Management

Effective strategies are needed to manage large and active collections of information to minimize the occurrence of failures that can affect users and the business as a whole.

Businesses have to employ practical methods and utilize thorough solutions. A secure email storage management method uses a layered technique that combines business applications and processes.

Email storage management can often be separated into various parts such as user access and storage. All components should be tackled individually.

Mail Flow

Mail flow includes various features of email systems and mail flow security often concentrates on tracking emails into and out of the organization.

Supervising the content of emails and checking that all messages abide by the policies of the business is necessary to make sure all users are employing appropriate business practices.

Mail flow security also involves protecting business systems from harmful incidences such as hacking.

Recovery of Data

Email recovery methods must be able to quickly retrieve a variety of individual items including messages, contacts, attachments, and appointments from backup systems and stores of information.

Illegal access to extremely sensitive mailbox information is a big risk to email data within an organization.

An effective technique to secure and audit sensitive information is necessary. The method must constantly monitor the security of mailboxes and authentication to make sure sensitive information of the email system is only accessed by authorized individuals.

The constant increase in technology and advanced computer systems brings more secure and manageable email systems. The development of a secure email environment that is effectively managed will promote the success of all types of businesses.

Email spam, commonly referred to as junk email, involves unimportant and annoying messages sent to a mass amount of email addresses. It accounts for approximately 78 percent of all sent emails. A survey conducted in 2010 of email users of the United States and Europe found that 46 percent of participants still opened email spam, despite understanding the risks.

Purpose

Email spam messages are unsolicited and often advertise products and websites or try to lure recipients to disclose personal information.

Since the sending email spam generally costs the recipient and not the sender, many advertisers view it as an effective advertisement technique.

Many spammers obtain a mass amount of email addresses and sell them to other spammers, therefore perpetuating the email spam epidemic.

Obtaining Email Addresses

Spammers obtain email addresses from a variety of locations on the Internet such as websites, chat rooms, customer lists, and viruses that collect email addresses from certain users.

Spammers also use a technique call email appending where they use public information about target users, such as a mailing address, to find the users’ email address.

A lot of email spam is often sent to email addresses that are invalid or no longer used.

Growth

Email spam has been on the rise since the early 1990s.

Computers that are infected with viruses, often called Botnets, are typically used to distribute about 80 percent of email spam.

In 2010, the average amount of sent email spam was 200 billion per day.

Legality

The legal status of email spam differs depending on the jurisdiction. In the U.S., the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 pronounced email spam legal as long as the messages abided by necessary stipulations.

As email spam has increased a wide range of users and Internet service providers have tried to recuperate the costs of email spam through lawsuits against senders of email spam, but most have been unsuccessful in obtaining the fees even if they receive the judgment in court.

A business email address gives an impression of a business. It is often the first form of communication between a business and a client. Thus, the email address must present a professional aspect of the business. A customer is likely turned off if they have to send an email to snugly white bunny instead of a customer service or a real person. Customers like direct communications with real people and will shy away from weird, awkward names that are difficult to remember. There are two options when picking a business name, a generic division business name or a real name.

A generic division name does have its advantages. It doesn’t change if someone gets hired or fired. It is very stable and people will find it easier to remember. However, the mere generic qualities make some customers feel that they are disconnected from the business. It also lacks a personal connection and the feeling of talking to a real person.

If you decide to use real names when setting up your business emails, you create a more personal connection. This makes a customer feel that they are in direct communication with a real person. It does not matter if you set-up your business address by a first name and last name or a first initial and last name. The downside to this method is that when the personal change, the business has to add new email addresses. This can lead to confusion for some clients who are used to dealing with certain individuals.

A business who uses Mrs. Fluffy bunny pants as an email address loses a lot of respect right off the bat. Remember, the email address is one of the first impressions a client has. A business should keep the business email address very simple and easy to remember for clients.

Email has become widespread among a variety of individuals worldwide. It serves as an effective communication method for personal and business use and it has changed the way people interact with each other.

Advantages of emails include:

Widespread and easy use: there are an abundance of websites that offer free email addresses and enable users to easily set up inboxes. Email can also be accessible from a wide variety of devices such as personal computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, mp3 players, and other digital devices.

Proficient: a mass amount of emails can be sent to a large group of people all at one time.

Extremely fast: emails can be sent and delivered to any location in the world with Internet access in a matter of seconds.

Safe and Dependable Transmission: the security level for most programs is typically very high and email services are constantly trying to create better security levels.

Delivery of emails is almost guaranteed: emails are typically promptly delivered to recipients. There are some rare cases where emails get lost in cyberspace, but this does not happen often.

Private: emails are usually private between the sender and recipient(s), while fax messages and telephone calls run the risk of other individuals gaining access to sensitive information.

Cost-efficient: sending an email generally does not cost anything besides Internet access and with many public places offering free Internet, most individuals can send emails for free. Overall, using email is less expensive than telephone calls, courier services, and fax machines.

Flexible: emails can include a variety of files such as documents, power points, pictures, music, and videos.

Easy Management: managing email inboxes is generally very simple and users can maintain all messages on one screen and categorize messages into separate folders.

Easy to Filter: the subject lines of email enables users to order emails by level of importance and open the messages that require immediate response and save the less important messages for a later time.

Spam hits our inbox everyday and is a completely annoying part of email. It is a hassle to go through and delete everything that is completely non-relevant. Ideally, the email carrier has filtered most of it out but somehow some spam makes it through the system. But it is not all of the email carrier’s fault that we receive spam. We do have to place some of the blame upon ourselves. If you know where some of this spam is coming from, you can do a few things to reduce the amount that come in.

Some of the spam comes from programs are sites that request an input of an email address. Now, the site might be perfectly legitimate. But this information is often collected and sold to people who are interested in such lists. The list may be sold several times putting you on a hit list for spam senders. You really have to look for the phrase, “We do not sell any information to third parties.” The sites that are most notorious for this are the ones that offer you something free based upon conditions of filing out sponsorship forms. Often, they are portrayed under the guise of survey sites. However, they are not true survey sites by any sense of the imagination.

Another mistake people make is posting their email address on an open forum. In this case, you become a spam target. It is relatively easy for those looking to “advertise” their business to send you an email. Once they have your email address, it is on their list forever. Even if you choose to opt out, it could take weeks before you name finally gets deleted. The annoying part of spam is that it always has to be deleted. But you can prevent some of it from entering your mailbox by not giving out your email address.

Fraud has become a rampart part of the email system. No email is immune from these attempts. But you can protect yourself, if you learn to recognize what is fraud and what is real. The problem comes in when the sense of emotions outweighs common sense. But if you take a step back and examine the mail in question, the answer becomes clear. Soon you will be answering those fraud emails with a delete response.

The first piece of information to examine is the address. Is it really from the site it claims to be from? The answer to this question is usually know. But you can get fooled with slight deviations. Examine the address closely. If you aren’t sure, you can always type in the site address into your search bar and it will answer the question. But it is not just who it is from, it is also who it is too that is important. If it isn’t directly to your specific email address, throw it in the trash bin.

The second piece of information to be wary of is the provided link. These links led to secondary sites whose sole purpose is to gather your personal information. Usually, they want your username and password. You can hover over the link to find out its real destination. Don’t click it though even though they express a sense of urgency about your account. Anything that ends in two or three strange letter combinations should be trashed immediately.

Finally, if you don’t know who it is or aren’t expecting that email, it is better that you delete it. The sob stories are a dime a dozen. They are there to play directly on your emotions and desires for more income. The promises are as false as their stories. The key to protecting yourself is to keep your emotions in check and use your common sense.

Many computer users are overwhelmed with email spam and spend hours trying to filter through the junk to locate messages that are actually worth viewing. Typically once an email address is place on a spam list it is very difficult to get it removed. Many occurrences of email spam cannot be avoided due to ever-improving harvesting programs, but there are some useful ways to minimize the amount of email spam and email account receives.

Create a Unique Email Address: An email address that uses both numbers and letters will assist amount of spam the address receives due to majority of spammers attacking email addresses with many name combinations at large email services.

Hiding Email Address: Hiding or masking an email address means using a special word or phrase in the address to confuse computer harvesting programs that are used to obtain email addresses. An example would be myemailaddress@nospam.aol.com instead of just myemailaddress@aol.com. Some websites and message boards may not allow individuals to hide email address and some computer harvesting programs may be able to detect common masking words.

Create Disposable Email Addresses: Disposable email address services enable users to create separate email addresses that link to a permanent email account. In the event one address starts to receive email spam it can be disposed without affecting the permanent account. Disposable email addresses are ideal for individuals who frequently post in public areas.

Use a Different Chat Screen Name: Individuals who use chat rooms should select a name that is completely different than their email address. Screen names used only for chat will less the occurrence of email addresses being linked to spam harvesting programs.

Use Two Different Email Addresses: Use two different email addresses or disposable accounts for different purposes. For example use one email address for business and personal contacts and use the other for things such as newsletters and public postings. This way the more important address is less likely to receive spam.

Most spam emails do not show up in your account without any input from you or someone you know. In order to avoid spam emails, you need to first understand how they get a hold of your email address. Often you will visit a website that requires your email address for account conformation. But in actuality, these sites are actually collecting individual email addresses that they can add to a mass mailing list and sell to the general public. Often you enter your information and click on the contract agreement which, in turn, legally prohibits you from taking any action and gives these companies the freedom to distribute your email information, at their own will.

Another way you end up giving out your email address is by signing up for promotions. Whether it is online or at the mall, you provide them with a personal email address which they can legally share with their business affiliates. Through these simple methods, your account information ends up with various companies. At times this can reach over a hundred companies within a matter of minutes and before you know it, you will receive endless junk mail. Also if you receive and open a spam mail, often a receipt confirmation goes back to the sender, which lets them know who is viewing their sent mail. If they determine that you will view them, they will continue to send more.

In order to avoid spam mail, do not provide your personal email address to everyone. Be selective and when you are signing up, read the terms of the contract carefully. With a few simple rules you will avoid getting junk mail. Share your email address only when necessary as it will help you limit the number of affiliates it goes out to. If for any reason you are not sure, then do not provide your personal information.

Most people use the same account for their work and personal use. While this is convenient when it comes to maintaining only one account, there are several disadvantages to it. To start with your work and your personal life should be kept different and often your employer does not want you to use your work accounts for your own gain. Keeping these separate will help you improve your work ethic and improve your productivity. Here are a few disadvantages you should keep in mind when it comes to using the same account for both work and personal.

* Work emails are a lot more professional and the security standards set on the server can easily blacklist emails from your family and friends. Especially if they are not clean, the server will recognize them as junk and delete them.
* If you use your work email address to sign up for store savings, you will not see most of those emails come through. Most retail stores use a mass mailing system and most corporate servers block those mass emails. If you feel that you want to sign up for savings coupons, you are better off using your personal email account to do so.
* Employers often review the contents of your email account. If they notice too many emails which are not related to your work, you may stand to lose your job. For this reason alone, it is advised that you keep your personal email separate.
* Most people can not access their corporate email from home so it would be to your advantage to have a separate email account, which you can access through the web. Personal email accounts can be set up with one of the many secure free email service providers.

These are just a few reasons but there are several other reasons which are outlined in employee handbooks. It is safe to keep your work separate from your everyday life.

Spam is not something we consider helpful, but there are different advantages to receiving spam mail. Most of us try to get rid of as much spam mail as possible, and for good reason, when you think of the few benefits span can provide, you will begin to look at them in a whole new way. The first ones received will actually help with your internet security and you do not even have to click and open them. Junk mail can take up a lot of valuable space on your email account and they take a long time to delete, but here are a few ways you can use spam mail to your advantage.

* When you first receive a new spam mail, instead of deleting it right away, make sure to take advantage and mark it as junk mail. This way all your future emails from the same address will automatically be deleted. If you do not take advantage of this and delete it right away, you will end up receiving even more from the same address. Most email accounts do not require you to open them and you simply need to highlight and set the rule.
* Spam mail can come from people you already know and if you notice someone’s name, you can inform them right away. Chances are, their email account has been hacked and as a result, emails are being sent to everyone in their contact list. By informing them, you will actually help them overcome the problems and take care of any security issues.
* Certain emails marked as junk, can actually contain valuable savings information. Often our email accounts are set to send mass emails into the junk mail folder. If you look at those emails and find something you can actually use, be sure to print it out. Also make sure you are aware of the source of its origin so that you can avoid any problems.

We always hear about how important it is to protect your computer and your internet and email accounts, but little does anyone tell us where to get the information. Knowing there is a problem is just not enough especially if we personally can not do anything about it. There are people who will ignore the importance of internet security, and when something happens, they are left stranded. In order for anyone to do anything, first they must learn the basics and how internet security functions. Only then will they find it in their interest to learn about internet security.

The most common way of learning about the internet and how to use it safely, is by asking someone knowledgeable. Those who work with the internet know a lot more about how to protect yourself and your personal data. This information can easily obtained from tech supports who work on fixing your computer and those who install your antivirus and other safety programs on your PC. All you need to do is show your interest and they will be more than happy to help you understand how your internet security works. With proper knowledge and your internet security in place, you will have a safe feeling when you are surfing the internet.

If for any reason you are too shy to ask anyone for help, then you can use your internet too to help you understand better. Learning about internet security is much easier with the volumes of information you can find online. A simple search will provide you with hundreds of pages, and all you need to do is click on the right ones and learn as much or as little information as you need. It does not take too long to learn about how to protect your computer and personal information. With the knowledge you obtain, you will be able to monitor internet security, instead of having to pay extra for tech support.

Identity theft has become a major issue with the internet and how it’s used. Due to the lack of laws and regulations set, just about anyone can access the internet. Those with enough knowledge will use it to their benefit in many ways. While some use the internet for work and communication, others use it to scam people and obtain personal information that they can use to bring about legal problems for you. Thieves will monitor website usage and the type of information you type into your email and internet browser, in order to get your financial information. Here are a few ways you can work on preventing your own identity theft.

* Identity theft takes only a matter of minutes and once those on the other end get a hold of your financial information, they work immediately to bring you financial harm. Most credit card companies are aware of the problem and once you do notice strange activities on your account, be sure to report them right away. Your best option is to cancel your current credit card and get a new number. Banks and other credit card companies constantly work to fight identity theft and with the proper reports from their clients, they can battle this problem much easier.
* Never store too much of your personal information on your computer. Especially credit card numbers and important username and passwords, as those are the first information hackers will go towards.
* Be sure to only visit sites you are aware of and sites which are rated as secure. If for any reason your have doubts about a site, be sure to read up on it before you review the site.

Your internet service providers and your credit card companies can only do so much. They all need your help too when it comes to your identity protection. Be sure to report fraudulent activities so that the problem can be followed up on immediately.

Your email account is one of the fastest means of communication on both personal and professional level. Emails are sent and received within less than a minute and one can include as much or as little information as needed. Emails accounts can also be used as a means to communicate with potential customers when it comes to a small business. They can send out detailed emails of their latest arrivals as well as their newest introductions. Even with the power of social network sites, emails still remain the most common method of communication. As more and more people turn away from the traditional stamps and envelopes, they use emails as the alternative method.

Regardless of age and season, people are using email accounts to deliver their holiday cards and sending out birthday gift certificates. It is convenient and easy to use and almost every person you speak to has one or multiple email accounts. But sending emails is not just the only function any longer. Several well known free email accounts offer an array of services including video and voice chats as well as instant messaging. Due to this reason alone, having an email account has become more important than it used to be. Almost every form you fill out has a field for your email address and if you decide to provide your contact email information, you will receive up to date news and keep up with any kind of process.

There are many companies who prefer to receive emails rather than phone calls as it helps them track their communication. A customer will also see a better response time when they email with inquiries they may have. Email has slowly become almost as important as any other necessities in your life and we move towards the future, it may become the only form of written communication medium. Due to a fast evolving society, it has become important to keep up with email accounts.

Not every website you visit is safe and as a result, more often than we want to believe, several programs and viruses get downloaded and installed on your computer. There are several types of websites and the best option for you is to adjust your security settings on your browser so that you can block those unwanted websites. With your setting set to medium or high, you can control the types of sites that show up on your searches and as a result you can eliminate the sites you do not want to click on. Website safety is extremely important when you are surfing the internet and if you are not sure about a site, just don’t click on it.

As a general rule of thumb, majority of the safe sites will be listed as the first ones when you are searching for something. If your browser has the proper security setting, you will be warned about sites before you click on them. A small message appears under the site link, in red, which will inform you if the site you are about to click on has been reported as problematic. Unsafe sites not only install viruses but they often bring up pop up windows that will install programs regardless of what you click on. For these sites, once the pop up window opens, close your browser window and you will prevent any unwanted activity.

The sites you visit are usually tracked by your ISP as well as hackers and once they see what you are viewing, hackers will try to point you towards those same sites. It’s a means of increasing their business and getting personal information from your terminal. Most sites you visit, such as retail sites and your financial bill payment sites are generally safe. They are monitored by outside agencies for fraudulent activities so you have a better chance with internet safety when visiting those particular pages.

Not everyone is an expert when it comes to knowing how to protect your computer from outside threats. Neither do most of us know what to do when our computer begins to experience problems, we have not seen or heard of before. Only a percentage of the workforce is a master at computers and they are the only ones who can keep up with any types of PC problems. Often we end up clicking on a website, or downloading an attachment that we do not think much about. In reality those are the attachments that will harm our terminal in more ways than we can imagine.

Antivirus programs are almost like a god sent, for people who are not too familiar with how their computer works. For most of us, as long as the computer turns on and we can perform our everyday activities, we don’t ask for anything more. If your computer gets infected with a virus, not only will you lose valuable information, but you will also notice how slow your PC runs. In your case, it is important to install and maintain some sort of an antivirus program. Antivirus programs usually work in the background and block any unwanted programs from being installed. Even when you need to install a program for your use, it will review and ask for your permission before installation. This way if you are not aware of what to install, you can choose to cancel. Antivirus programs also work in your favor and delete viruses that are already installed on your computer. A simple virus scan, once in a while will help you review and delete anything that will harm your computer.

While there are several other benefits, these are just a few to keep in mind, when it comes to determining whether you should install antivirus programs on your computer. Consult with a professional if you are unsure of what to purchase.

Who has time to write checks and mail them out at the end of each month? In today’s internet age, it is a lot faster to pay your bills over the internet, but there are certain safety measures you should keep in mind. While you can also pay your bills using your mobile devise, there are several advantages to using your internet and your home computer. Even though you may feel that using your home computer may not be safe due to hacking, there are ways to keep things secure. Here are a few advantages to using your computer for your bills, the safe way. You only need to keep a few things in mind, in order to protect your identity.

* Identity theft is often caused due to unwanted programs being installed on your computer, so try to avoid going on sites you are not sure about. This way the content of your PC will be kept safe and for added assurance, always have a proper anti virus program running at all times.
* Do not store usernames and passwords on your computer. If you are not sure of how your information will get out, it is safer to write them down and keep them in a safe place. Often hackers look for files with personal account information and your credit card numbers, which they can use to their benefit.
* Schedule all your bills through your bank account, so that at the end of each month, you can simply go into your financial institute’s website and conduct everything from there. It is much easier to remember just one login information, and this way, you can reduce the time you spend on your various accounts.

Always remember to delete financial information from your computer and instead store them on a disk. These are just a few ways to pay your bills online and keep things safe. For more information, consult with your financial institution.

Regardless of the size of a company, it has become increasingly difficult to monitor spam emails. It seems that no matter how well your filter is sorted, there are always new ways for spammers to send you emails. While there are many programs in place, to help you battle this spam problem, it is hard to keep up to date. Span email go a lot further than just frustration for a company and often not enough is done to take care of them. These mails consist of information that is harmful for both your employees and the organization as a whole. Here are a few major problems with these types of emails.

* Without the proper filter in place, spam emails take up valuable time from your employees. It takes times to delete them and as a result you lose productive time that can be used to get important work completed.
* Often employees with little knowledge of these emails will click and open some of them and even download harmful attachments. These attachments contain viruses that are installed automatically in individual work stations as well as on the server. Once installed they can take up more space than imaginable.
* Viruses from spam emails are known to effect core parts of your server and can mean spending thousands to get your servers back in order. They crash PC and leave employees in a panic and hinder their productive output.
* In addition to everything else, spam can flood your email server and account within minutes but the amount of time that goes into sorting them is more than expected.

Spam has become a serious problem for any organization. There are companies who regularly work hard to update their products to help you out. In order to fight the problem, consult with knowledgeable people who are able to advise you regarding the best software available. Fighting spam is equally as important as fighting fraud for an organization.

Preventing any types of viruses is more important for your computer now than it used to be. It is a lot safer and smarter to prevent your PC and your email from any types of problems, rather than spending an arm and a leg to fix it. Junk mail makes our email accounts a field for viruses to pile up and without knowing what is legitimate, we often end up clicking on the wrong emails. If an email comes with an attachment and you are not aware of whom the sender is, it is better for you to delete the email. Attachments often consist of viruses and once you click on them, the virus is automatically installed on your computers hard drive.

Viruses can cause a lot of problems and without proper junk mail filter you can cause a lot of harm. They can delete contents of your PC and corrupt important programs. There are certain viruses that will collect important personal information from your computer and send them to other parties. Especially if you store financial information and passwords for certain accounts, they can be stolen and as a result you will spend days just trying to fix the problems. The damage is beyond imaginable, at times, and there is little you can do to prevent it once these viruses are installed.

In such cases, it is important to protect your email. There are several free and low cost programs available online that can be installed on your computer to recognize and delete viruses. Be sure your firewall is up at all times so that your computer is somewhat protected. If you are unsure of what products to use, either consult with someone knowledgeable, or do some research online. You will find many easy to install and use programs that will help protect your email account and your computer. Why spend the money on fixing things when you can prevent these problems?

There are several advantages to using email for your business. In today’s fast work environment, email is a way of communication we have grown to depend on. The benefits of using email alone is a big reason why your corporate email accounts and emails servers should be protected at all time. Like your database of financial information that you transfer with secure software like FileZilla FTP, your emails too can be hacked and confidential information can get out easily. Regardless of the size of your business, once you have learnt to protect your emails using antivirus programs and spam filters, your business will function at a completely different speed. Here are a few advantages of using emails:

* Unlike the past, emails have increased productivity by increasing delivery speed. Emails are delivered within less than a minute and as a result you stand to receive a faster response. Postal service takes a lot more time to deliver the information and faxes are slowly becoming a thing of the past due to their lack of clear delivery.

* Emails are considered a legal way of communication and in the world of business, contents of emails are binding by law. If for any reason you require a written confirmation, emails will provide you with just that.

* Emails are much easier to store and save money in various ways. Storing emails do not require you to print them out if you have enough server space. And if your email files become larger you could transfer them to another server for back up using something like File Zilla. This alone saves you on office supplies. Email can also increase the speed at which your employees perform their tasks. There is less of a need to spend endless time on the phone when the same things can be explained in an email, in less time.

The proper use of corporate email accounts will improve productivity and increase communication. The cost savings alone should be an incentive to increase their usage. These are just a few ways that will help your company and there are several other benefits to it.

Spam emails come in many forms and unless you know which ones are legitimate, you will end up sharing your information with those who can only cause more harm. Though it may seem difficult, spotting span emails can be quite easy and there are a few things one must always keep in mind when it comes to detecting spam. Once you are familiar with what spam is and what is not, you will be a lot better at protecting your self and your computer.

You should always follow the rule of three main categories of emails. There are those you receive from your family and friends. If you are aware of the sender, there is usually no harm in opening them and reviewing the email. But you must be careful with the forwarded emails and any that seem oddly out of place. Those emails are sometimes sent by hackers who are able to follow your email account usage. The next set of emails which are generally harmless, are those sent out by the retail stores you usually shop at. Changes are you have provided them with your email address and as a result they send you valuable coupons and inform you of upcoming sales.

The third set, and the most dangerous ones, are those that seem to be sent to you by your financial institution. Often these emails let you know that your password needs to be set and in order for them to do that, you must provide them with important account information. When you receive these emails, be sure to not open any attachments and instead call your financial institution directly. If they need information on your account, they will not email you, instead it will be a phone call. If you are in doubt, call the source directly to clarify. These are just a few of the ways to detect emails and there are several others you can read up on.

If you are fan of any types of Nigerian scam, you will notice that you win some sort of a lottery almost everyday. Either it’s from a financial institution or a major corporation or even from a family who wants to give away their fortune. If this was truly the case, we would all be millionaires by now, but most of these emails are scams that we all need to be aware of. If and when you win the lottery, you will know by your number matches or a simple phone call from the company. There is little to no chance of your email address being drawn in random, when it comes to winning a large some of money.

There is less than one in a million chances for anyone to win the lottery and while many of us are aware of the fact, there are those who are not too clear about it. Uncertainty makes people feel that they have truly hit the jackpot and they begin to contact the sender almost immediately. There are several cases where individuals have lost their whole life’s savings due to these false emails and there is little the government can do to help you recover the money. Most of these emails come from overseas and since there is no regulation of emails on the internet, you end up being a victim.

Even if you set your email spam filter to detect and delete these emails automatically, there are many ways they still end up in your account. Either you will be notified of someone’s passing or they request your help in collecting their finances for a percentage to you. These are generally known as Nigerian scam and even though not all of them originate from the country, they were the original senders of these types of emails. Know your chances of winning and you too will be able to protect your self from scammers.

Your internet service can cost you quite a bit, but in today’s day and age, your internet service is equally as important as your email account. Though you may not see emails as a means of saving cost, there are several financial benefits to using your email. The regular use of emails not only help you keep in touch with your family and friends but the various costs you can save will help you acquire something desirable. Here are a few ways that your email account will help you save some money.

* Sending out emails take a lot less time and money than sending out mails with the postal service. With the time saved, you can do something productive and the amount of money you will save on mailings will help free up cash.
* Your mail account is also one of your major sources of savings for items you require on an everyday basis as well as luxury items. Several major supermarkets are known to email coupons to those who sign up and all you need to do is print them out and preset then at the time of checkout. Even though you may feel coupons only save you a little, each and every one of them will add up and you would be surprised at how much you save.
* We all try to find the brands we love, at the best possible price. Not many of us can afford to pay full price, but luckily, major brands are known to promote email only sales. They will email discount coupons which can be as much as 40% off and without a printout of the exclusive coupon, you will not be able to participate in the sale.

These are just a few ways for personal savings, but with more research you will understand how companies save too. Due to this reason, email has become a lot more used than other delivery services.

Email attachments come in many forms and unless you are sure of what the attachments consist of, there are several risks to opening them. Some attachments you are aware of come from friends, family and work, and often these are the ones you will open first. Just because you know the person sending the email and know the attachment may have been created with a safe program like open office, does not mean that the attachment is safe. Often hackers will disguise the emails so that it seems like its coming from a known person. Do not be fooled by what you receive and, if for any reason, you are in doubt be sure to call the person sending to clarify. Opening an attachment can bring about a lot of problems for your computer and your personal information.

Hackers will do just about anything to gain your trust so that you will open an email and then try to view the attachment. It only takes a matter of seconds for certain viruses to install and it takes hours to clear them off your system. The damage done can be hard to handle and especially if you have confidential or financial information stored on your computer, which is the first thing that will be transmitted. In any case, it can not be stressed enough, how important it is to know where the attachment is coming from. Sometimes it can be in the form of a document and other times it will be in the form of a video or audio file.

Luckily most email service providers, as well as computers, have virus scans installed that will scan the attachment before downloading. In most cases, the virus scan will warn you if there is any danger in downloading, but there are times too when these attachments can bypass the virus scan. Installing a virus scan is your first priority and if you are unsure, make it a point to consult with a tech support first.

The best email account for your small business, or even for your individual use, does not have to cost anything. Often the most you have to pay, in order to have the most appropriate email account, is the cost of your internet service. Larger companies spend thousands of dollars in order purchase and maintain their email servers. The servers and the email accounts hosted are not the only cost associated with them. You have to have proper tech support and a proper recovery plan, and both can cost upwards of $3000 per month. Larger companies perform most of their communication through email exchanges, but smaller companies can do the same, without going over their budget.

Most small companies can not afford the expenses of maintaining their own email servers. For them it is cost effective to use one of the free email service providers. Google, for example, is a great email service host for any business and they are more up to date on their programs, than most large scale companies. These free accounts are great for conducting your business and since they are free to use and maintain, you can keep your cost at a minimum. The main advantage of these accounts is that they are aware of fraudulent emails and they work hard to prevent them from going into one’s inbox. Any suspicious and mass email is blocked by their servers so you stand to have a more secure account to work with.

If for any reason you are not sure of what type of account to use for your small business, there are a lot of articles available online, to educate you. It is safer for you to use these free accounts and since they are so well known around the globe, you have a lesser chance of your important emails ending up in the recipient’s junk mail folder. These free accounts will be the best for your small business.

Controlling the amount of spam that is delivered to your email account can become a tedious and time consuming project. There are several things you can do in order to minimize the amount of junk emails that are delivered. Being able to control these emails will reduce the risk of opening unwanted emails and will help you maintain a secure email account. Even though this process can take sometime, you will have more time to be productive and less frustrated with your personal or business email accounts. Here are a few ways you can maintain a good and secure email account.

* If you have noticed the pattern of your spam mail, most of them come from the same address on a daily basis. The best way to control them would be to block them or mark them as spam. Once reported, they will not be delivered to your inbox and instead they will end up in your junk mail folder and will be deleted automatically.
* Some emails can be blocked by the words they use or the subject of the email. The only problem with using specific wording is that, you stand to send some of your legitimate emails into the same junk mail folder. Instead try to block by the subject of the email. Most of them will be in regards to free or low cost services and contain adult service information. Once you set the rules to block these emails, you will receive a lot less of them.
* If for any reason you are unable to perform either of the above tasks, then there are several low cost services you can sign up for. These services will enable spam filters on your email account and each email coming into your mail box will be scanned before delivery. You always have the option of reviewing what is blocked, in case there are emails you need delivered, instead of being blocked.

Mass mailing is a great form of advertising, but if you are not sure of how to go about with your mass emails, delivery will not be guaranteed. Most servers are known to block emails if it notices adverts and often they will delete these emails rather than delivering to a mail box. Once you know how to send out mass emails to your potential clients, you will only benefit from this type of advertising. Mass mailing can be done from your own email account, or even from your work server, but there are risks associated with it. If for any reason, one or more recipients from the same service provider decide to report your email as spam, it will take you a while to clear your account for future delivery. This can be both time consuming and will delay the advertising process.

Your ultimate aim is to deliver these emails in a way that will reach your potential or existing customers. For example, if you are using Google mail and if you add too many email accounts to the CC or BCC field, your delivery will be blocked. Most accounts limit the number of recipients you can send to, but there are several ways to get around that. Try to find a low cost mailing service can help you design your advertisement and deliver in a proper way. These services have contracts with email hosts and often their email sender’s account is recognized as a legitimate. This is the best bet for you if you are planning on sending to thousands of customers.

Mass emails are also blocked due to the wordings used, so be sure to keep the wording simple and to the point. Refrain from using any types of adult contents as it will only hinder the delivery process. If you are unsure, consult with one or more of the mass email companies out there to help you. And instead of sending a mass email with attachments, why not pass along files like the vlc media player with an aresgalaxy file sharing program. The ares p2p is free and files can be shared without worrying that a service provider will block delivery like with a mass email.
